Massage at The Recovery Room

I offer several different options for massage which are outlined in more detail below.  I have done specific training in Remedial massage, pregnancy and post natal massage, myofascial release, and manual lymphatic drainage.

I do not subscribe to the theory that massage only works when it causes pain. At times an injury or muscle tension will cause some pain but in my view massage should never create unbearable pain or make existing pain worse. In my experience the most effective massage happens when the client is able to relax and let the massage work with the muscles to let go of tension and remember how they are supposed to function.

Therapeutic/Relaxation Massage

This style of massage is for those who are seeking to destress or work on general aches and pains caused by activities, old injuries or just life. I use massage techniques such as myofascial release, swedish and some deep tissue  to help relax muscles, improve blood flow, release toxins and calm the nervous system. This massage will encompass  whichever part of the body you would like me to focus on ie, full body, back, neck and shoulders, or lower body.  You will be positioned either on your stomach, back or side and I may reposition you once but you will be able to relax and enjoy the massage, many people doze off.

Remedial Massage

Remedial massage targets a particular issue that is causing pain or discomfort. This may be caused by work, sport, or an injury (old or new). At your first appointment I allow an extra 15 minutes for a thorough assessment of the issue which may include some physical assessments of posture, the range of movement of a joint or other testing to help ascertain which muscles are involved, how your body is moving, and any pain/restriction of movement.  We then make a plan to address the issue.  Remedial massage focusses on the particular area of concern and I may only massage that part of your body.  The massage may include trigger point therapy, neuromusclular techniques, along with other massage techniques, movement and stretching.  It is an active massage rather than a relaxing one as I may move your limbs more, ask you to provide resistance and change positions. It is likely that I will recommend you have more than one session in order to fully address the issue.    I am happy to work alongside other health professionals to get the best results for you, and ask that you bring any radiology or specialist reports (if you have any) with you to your first appointment.

Children’s Massage

As a mother of two I know that sometimes they need a massage too! My children love being massaged and I find their tired and sore muscles respond much quicker than adults. Massage can be great if your child is involved in a lot of sport and are finding their muscles are tight or joints are niggling. It is also great for those with busy minds as it helps them to relax and unwind. When I work with children their parent stays in the room with us to make sure they feel comfortable at all times. Feel free to call me to discuss your child before booking a session.
