Responsible gambling

Play only with money you can lose

Every brand listed here is restricted to adults aged 18 and over. A casino balance is entertainment spending and belongs in the same part of your budget as a concert ticket, not alongside rent, power, groceries or a debt repayment. Decide the figure before you open the cashier, and treat it as spent the moment it lands in the account.

Signs that the balance is running you

The pattern to watch for is chasing: increasing the stake after a losing run in the hope of levelling out. Others are playing longer than planned, keeping the sessions to yourself, borrowing to top up an account, or opening a second account after hitting a limit on the first. None of these is a moral failing and none of them fixes itself. Noticing one is reason enough to stop for the night and talk to somebody.

Tools inside your account

Every operator we rank offers deposit limits, session reminders, cooling-off periods and permanent self-exclusion. Set the deposit limit on day one rather than after a bad week. A reduction applies straight away; an increase is deliberately delayed, which is the point of the tool. Self-exclusion closes the account for a fixed term and the operator cannot reopen it early on request.

Free help in New Zealand

Confidential support costs nothing and is available around the clock. Call the Gambling Helpline NZ on 0800 654 655, text 8006, or contact the Problem Gambling Foundation of New Zealand for face-to-face and online counselling. Both services also support partners, parents and whānau affected by somebody else's gambling, and neither requires you to stop playing before you call.
